History of Tatami Stitch
The word tatami has been taken from the verb tatamu which meaning is “to fold” or “to pile”. This means that the tatami was thin and could be folded up when not used or pilled in layers. Basically, tatami was a glamour item for the aristocracy. The Tatami came from the period of Heain when the Shinden-zukuri architectural style of aristocratic residence was put an end.
In the period of Kamakura ,there woke the shion-zukuri architectural style of house for the samurai and shepherd who had gained power.
